THEATRE WORKSHOP and (OPEN AIR) PERFORMANCE: UMUT (= "hope")

We are proud to announce that for the fourth year HAYAL in co operation with Bob van der Lugt will offer a new multicultural theatre event in Kalkan. The event, like previous years, stimulates cultural and artistic exchange amongst everyone involved. Thanks to the close co operation with the local citizens and Primary School of Kalkan the theatre event has become a successful and special attraction. Everybody likes to join and share the event with great pleasure!
Our challenge for this year: several performances in Turkey: Kalkan and Yesilkoy and The Netherlands: Rotterdam. The open air performances, combined with live music, songs & dance, will be shown at several inspiring spots in Kalkan and surroundings for a very enthusiastic audience. The theatre event will take place 18 - 23 October 2009, in Kalkan.

Title of our new performance is UMUT (Turkish for hope), based on a famous old Dutch play "Op hoop van zegen" by Herman Heijermans. Universal theme's characterize the social inspired "Play of the sea" of 1900. By improvising - keyword for the theatre workshops of Bob - the play will gets its final contence. Considering the background of the actors and the influence by the Turkish surroundings the new performance will be an extraordinary combination of Dutch and Turkish elements.

This year the accent of the theatre project is focussing on acting intensity and experience. Next to the theatre workshop in Kalkan we will offer 2 intensive acting weekends in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.. First weekend is planned on 19 en 20 September, previous to the theatre week in Kalkan (Sunday 18 - Friday 23 October). Second weekend - rehearsals and performances - is planned in Rotterdam (Hoogvliet) on 28 and 29 November.

Teacher/Stage manager

BOB VAN DER LUGT: manager Theatre School (SKVR) Rotterdam - Netherlands. In 1986 he finished his study theatre in Amsterdam and still possessed by theatre. Bob made many theatre productions together with youngers & adults. His performances are characterized by its vivid liveliness; the audience has no reason to be bored. He considers the authenticity of the actors as his keyword, because making theatre starts with oneself. During his workshops Bob stimulates his participants to relay on their own and fellow participants' possibilities, to find new boundaries in a respectful way. Bob has successfully staged in 2006, 2007 and 2008 three theatre performances: Ali & Leyla, LIMON and Tatlim in Kalkan.

Acting weekends in Rotterdam

Weekends are organised by Bob van der Lugt. Participants will explore their own capacities as well as the capacities of the others.
First/ September weekend: acting training and script orientation. Basic foundation of the play.
Second/November weekend: new co-operation.
Upon return to The Netherlands the Dutch actors will co operate with a new group: Turkish amateurs who live in Rotterdam. Together they will co-operate and will make a new performance (input by the new group) based on the fundaments/essence of the Turkish performance: UMUT.

Workshop in Kalkan

Important condition: pleasure in acting. The Dutch participants will be completed by local Turkish amateur actors and children of the Local Primary School of Kalkan. The workshop is carefully composed by means of practising (vocal & body excersises) & rehearsals. Guideline is the script written by Bob based on the Dutch play "op hoop van zegen". During 5 days the participants will create - based on improvising - towards an optimal presentation.

Performances in Kalkan, Yesilkoy and Rotterdam

characteristic for the (open air) performances of Bob is the vivid and lively multicultural character.
The open air performance UMUT - approx. 40 minutes- will be shown at the public beach in Kalkan and another inspiring location in Yesilkoy. Performances are accessible for everyone (young and old), free entrance.
Pleasure, solidarity and last but not least motivation of the actors, school children and local musicians registered by Bob combined with the efforts of all the other people involved makes it a spectacular show. In the mean time we can count on a growing interest, a substantial and enthusiastic audience.

To join the theatre workshop you do not need to have any acting experience. Main condition is enthusiasm. Friends, family everybody who reached the age of 18 is welcome to participate!
Minimum: 10, maximum: 15 participants.
Total theatre project consists of 2 acting weekends, 5-days workshop and several (open air) performances:
First weekend: 19 and 20 September in Rotterdam - The Netherlands: foundation;
5-days theatre workshop:Sunday 18 - Thursday 22 October on location in Kalkan - Turkey;
Open air performances: UMUT: Thursday 22 and Friday 23 October on location in Kalkan en Yesilkoy - Turkey;
Second weekend: 28 and 29 November in Rotterdam - The Netherlands: new co operation.
