Kalkan is situated in the area which once belonged to the Lycian empire, a very old civilisation,
several impressive excavations remained. Kalkan -originally a Greek fisherman village- has a lovely bay at the
Mediterranean sea and is surrounded by green mountains.
At the map you will find Kalkan between Fethiye/Antalya.
With its 3000 inhabitants Kalkan is an unique Turkish village with an air of a city. It is a popular place not only for Turkish tourists also foreign tourists. They are fond of the "easy going" lifestyle which is in harmony with the climate. During the last 2 decades people -especially (West)Europeans- have decided to live in Kalkan.
The old centre has lovely small slopy streets and white authentic houses decorated with bougainvilleas and oleanders. In the pitoresque harbour you will find amongst fisher boats and sailing yachts traditional Turkish boats which offer daily trips to the sea. Kalkan has its own pebble beach with sun beds & umbrellas. Fortunately Kalkan kept its own identity, the absence of huge hotels -instead there is an interesting variety of "small" quality hotels- has refreain the "Turkey tourists rush".
